DANBURY TAKES FRIDAY NIGHT CONTEST

by Rob Lippolis

DANBURY – The Binghamton Black Bears fell on the road to the Danbury Hat Tricks Friday evening, by a final score of 5-1

Due to assistant coach Tom Reynolds out with illness, and prior commitments by Jerry D’Amigo, Kyle Powell stepped into the assistant role tonight overseeing the defense.

The Hat Tricks came out with a bang scoring four goals in the first period.  Luke Richards scored two goals in the first 10 minutes.  Dustin Jesseau and Evan Lugo add a goal each to give the Hat Tricks a four-goal cushion after the first period.  Stellar play by Danbury held the Black Bears offense at bay, only allowing 4 shots in the frame.

The Black Bears started the second period much better than the first, however Danbury would still get on the board first to kill what momentum Binghamton thought that had.  Gavin Yates would break the shutout and tally his third goal of the season.  But after 40, the Hat Tricks held on to a 5-1 advantage.

Neither team would score in the third period, however there would be plenty of hits that would set the pace for the final period.  Three fighting majors were issued a side, the Black Bears received a game misconduct, Daniel Amesbury received a game ejection for a high hit on Yates.  After the collision both teams had to be separated.  The last 10 minutes of the game came-and-went as the teams would trade hits and possession time not creating any high-danger chances.  Danbury takes round one, 5-1 on Friday night.

The Hat Tricks and Black Bears will face off once again on Saturday night.  Puck drop is scheduled for 7:00 P.M. Fans can tune in all season long on FOX 1430 Binghamton and the IHeart Radio app.  The Black Bears will return home on November 11th &12th for Military Appreciation Weekend.
