POWELL RECORDS 300TH POINT IN 5-3 LOSS TO DANBURY

BINGHAMTON – Kyle Powell recorded his 300th point of his career as the Binghamton Black Bears’ comeback fell short in a 5-3 loss to Danbury inside Visions Veterans Memorial Arena on Saturday night.

Danbury took an early 1-0 lead courtesy of Johnny Ruiz. John Macdonald sent a shot to the net from the point that Ruiz tipped in for his 41st goal of the year. Ruiz’s goal came just 31 seconds into the game with assists from Macdonald and Dmitry Kuznetsov.

Kuznetsov fired a wrist shot over the shoulder of goaltender Owen Liskiewicz for a 2-0 lead just 2:22 into the game. The goal was Kuznetsov’s 30th of the year from Kodiak Whiteduck and Tal Finberg.

Binghamton responded as Cam Yarwood scored a highlight-reel goal at 3:08 of the first period. Yarwood moved behind Danbury’s net and pulled off “The Michigan” and lifted the puck over the right shoulder of goaltender Brian Wilson for his fourth of the year. Assists were awarded to Gavin Yates and Josh Newberg and Binghamton trailed 2-1.

Zachary Lazzaro located a rebound just below the hash marks and beat Liskiewicz to give Danbury a 3-1 lead after one period of play. Assists were given to Steve Brown and Tal Finberg. 

Danbury took a 4-1 lead early in the third period as Brett Jackson fired in a wrist shot from the top of the circles. The goal came at 2:12 with assists from Adamo Asselin and Steve Brown.

Kyle Powell pulled the Black Bears within two and recorded his 300th point of his career at 6:02 of the third period. Powell skated in a ripped a wrist shot over the shoulder of goaltender Brian Wilson with assists from Emil Strom and Gavin Yates and Binghamton trailed 4-2.

The Black Bears got within one goal as Tyler Gjurich tapped in a shorthanded goal at 14:39 of the third. Colan Fitzgerald was hauled down on a breakaway and Gjurich slid the puck home for his 37th of the year and the Black Bears trailed 4-3.

With the net empty, Dmitry Kuznetsov scored to seal the 5-3 win for Danbury.
